Papalote Children's Museum Monterrey
Monterrey, Nuevo León

A Museum coherent with its environmental education approach.
Papalote Monterrey was born as an environmental education project with the key concept of sustainability. It is designed as a place where visitors come into contact with nature through a wide variety of resources that are articulated, along with the narrative, in five cross-cutting themes: air, water, soil, biodiversity and energy; and two complementary thoughlines: Eco-Art and Climate Change. These thematic areas promote lifelong environmental responsibility while communicating and instilling values, knowledge and skills necessary to face humanity's social, economic and scientific challenges of the 21st century. In addition, its toddler areas bring young children closer to the exploration of different ecosystems.
The project is characterized by its living exhibition design, as it integrates nature into the exhibits, furniture, and environmental elements. Life is present in fish tanks, terrariums, the butterfly garden, the reproduction of an extinct species (the Aramberri monster), various biological collections, the fossil collection of the Fernández family that includes the remains of the Jurassic dinosaur Apatosaurus, the Environmental Services Garden, a tree rescued and treated for conservation, and in all elements that evoke contact with the natural environment. This approach facilitates immersion and stimulates exploration, creativity, curiosity, understanding and awareness of environmental problems, promoting both the conservation and protection of support systems and planetary biodiversity.
