Chapultepec Park Site Museum and Visitor Center

First Section of Chapultepec Park, Mexico City

2018

A Museum with two vocations that maximizes exhibition space.

Both the Site Museum and Visitor Center were created with the goal of highlighting the natural, historical, cultural, educational, and recreational richness of Chapultepec Park. The symmetry of the building allowed for two independent exhibition areas with their own vocations, connected by their content and design.

Conceptually, the Site Museum bears witness to the great transformations that Chapultepec Park has undergone in its different periods: during the Pre-Hispanic era it was a sacred site; during Colonial times, it was a recreational space for the rulers and a place of Spanish domain; during the Independent period, it witnessed historical events such as the war against the United States; and finally, in the Contemporary era, it became a civic space and an icon of identity. On the other hand, the Visitor Center shows the rehabilitation process to which the Park was subjected, as well as the natural, cultural and recreational offer that visitors can currently enjoy.

The exhibition design has a contemporary and functional feel, integrating every corner to the exhibition language in addition to contributing to an efficient operation. Both spaces are surrounded by an inviting wall graphic that covers almost the entire surface of the interiors, with the exception of some details of doors and windows. Their style is similar to historical screens, murals or decorative wallpaper (some of which can be found in Chapultepec Castle itself) and has a pictorial character.
