La Rodadora Interactive Space

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua

2013

An interactive space that inspires to celebrate life.

La Rodadora Espacio Interactivo was created in response to Juárez's need for a place that fostered love for the city and pride for living in it. Based on these premises, we defined two central themes: natural and social environments. This approach seeked to make the region's diversity visible, highlight the features of Juárez's identity, contribute to the recovery of the spirit of a city that celebrates life, and expose its two greatest geographical challenges: the desert and the border.

The project is conceptually based on the Participatory Museum model, in response to the genuine desire to establish a link with the community through strategies that encouraged their active participation in the different stages of development, and with the goal of empowering the stakeholders so that they would make the space theirs. Thus, we strategically focused on looking for collectives, historians, chroniclers, academics, craftspeople, artists, and indigenous communities such as the Tarahumara. Regardless of their age or condition, they were all invited to be part of contet creation, exhibition and environmental designs, so that each element in the Museum would be an expression of Juárez and its people, giving it a unique identity.
